An elected Labor Government will boost support for the state after dark by extending the 24-hour Economy Strategy to cover the six cities, bringing Newcastle into the plan.
The 24-hour Economy Commissioner would lead a coordinated and collaborative effort with local councils, communities, industry and creatives in these regions to build a strong and vibrant night time economy that prioritises live music and entertainment.
Councils in the region have often led the debate about how to plan better for our cities after dark. It is time that the state government plays its part.
A future Labor Government will also give the 24-hour Economy Commission more powers to drive the agenda, and convert the role into a permanent statutory appointment, protecting the role in the law.
Ms Yasmin Catley MP – Member for Swansea and Shadow Minister for the Hunter said “Newcastle has the capacity to host many live music and entertainment events, but for too long our night-time economy has been left in the dark”.
“We have many talented musicians right across our region. Labor’s plan to extend the 24-hour Economy Strategy will help grow our local music scene, and provide opportunities for our musicians and performers to showcase their talent”.
“This is a great announcement for our region and I can’t wait for us all to have the chance to enjoy more live gigs here”.
