Swansea E-News

Welcome to my fortnightly newsletter.

In state news, It has been a very difficult week for our state with the tragic events that occurred at Bondi. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims. The events at Wakeley were distributing, to attack a church leader goes against everything our country stands for. The scenes we saw afterwards that saw police attacked were simply unacceptable.

In local news, it was great to join the Attorney General in honouring four local Justices of the Peace who have served as JPs for fifty years each. Elsewhere, Wyong TAFE is also set to benefit from a $5.4 million investment from the NSW Government.

The Community Notice Board contains information on the EnableNSW Continence Assistance Scheme, 2024 Volunteer of the Year Awards and the community art prize.

Bondi and Wakeley Incidents

Like everyone in the community I was horrified at the events that occurred in Bondi last Saturday. My heart breaks with the victims, their families, friends and the community.

I want to say thank you to the brave police who risk their lives everyday to protect us and to Inspector Amy Scott whose heroism put an end to the violence.

I want to thank the paramedics and other first responders.

I also want to thank the bystanders, who courageously helped those who needed it and whose lives are changed forever.

An online condolence booklet is also available to sign here.

The terrorist event at Wakeley and the events that followed leading to police officers being injured in responding were appealing.

It goes against everything our country stands for, to attack a Bishop giving a sermon. I thank police who put themselves in harms way in responding to this incident.

The NSW Government and NSW Police are working with faith and community leaders to ensure community harmony.

As the Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, I could not be more proud of the conduct of the police in responding to these events. We truly do have the best police force in the world.

Rebuilding TAFE

The NSW Labor Government is investing $300 million state-wide to deliver upgraded facilities and equipment to over 120 TAFE NSW campuses .

As part of this investment, TAFE NSW Wyong will receive a funding boost of $5.4 million to upgrade campus infrastructure and improve digital connectivity to support the skills needs of the local community.

As a result of this funding  TAFE NSW Wyong will receive:

  • A new specialist animal studies facility; and

  • new digital devices for teachers and students.

This will help to deliver critical skills training locally.

JPs Celebrate 50 Years

I'm proud to stand alongside these four gentlemen, all from Swansea.

Mr Robert Cater, Mr James Ryman, Mr David Tull and Mr Ian Williams have been honoured for serving 50 years as Justices of the Peace.

It was a chance for the Department of Communities and Justice, Michael Daley MP and myself to celebrate the wisdom, service and integrity they bring.

Thank you for serving the people of Swansea, gentlemen.

Employing Frontline Health Workers

The NSW Labor Government has been focused on rebuilding our essential services.

We are seeing the results of this commitment with NSW Health adding over 3,000 more workers between February 2023 to February 2024.

This includes over 1,200 more nurses, 150 more paramedics, 300 more doctors and over 400 more allied health workers.

Alongside this boost to the workforce, the Government is rolling out the first 2,000 health worker study subsidies to new and graduating health students across NSW.

This includes 840 nursing students, 610 allied health, 241 medical students and 144 paramedical students.

The work to rebuild our health system does not stop here as we continue to rollout safe staffing levels at our hospitals and have the Emergency Department Taskforce working to reduce ED wait times.
