Aunty Laurel has built a 50-year career in Aboriginal education and these days is a tireless volunteer. Her stellar career includes a PhD and the longest active stint on the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group.

Backing our Local Surf Clubs

Great to join Brad Fox President of Swansea - Belmont SLSC to present a cheque for $22,000 to purchase a new IRB to support the club to do the work they do to keep our community safe.

This is part of a broad investment of more than $100,000 split between all surf clubs in the Swansea electorate.

STATE NEWS

Stations Future Unveiled

It was great to have the Minister for Planning in the Hunter this week to unveil the future of the historic Station building.

The NSW Government has opened expressions of interest for a tourism and hospitality operator for this historic place.

The Government is focused on investing in our region. The Newcastle Ocean Baths have never looked better. City of Newcastle has restored them beautifully, helped by $3 million from the NSW Government.

Class 361 Attestation

On 1 March, 2024 158 probationary constables graduated the NSW Police Academy.

Congratulations Class 361 on your hard work and resolute commitment to serve and protect communities across NSW. It was an honour to welcome you to the police family.

The new officers have started at stations across NSW and I wish them all a rich and rewarding career with the NSW Police Force.

Rebuilding TAFE

The NSW Labor Government is investing $300 million into TAFE NSW this financial year to upgrade classrooms and campus infrastructure, deliver new teaching equipment, and improve digital connectivity across regional and remote campuses.

This landmark financial injection into TAFE NSW will refurbish workshops and specialist facilities to train more electricians, metal fabricators, plumbers, and healthcare workers in communities like Wagga Wagga, Albury, Goulburn, Port Macquarie, Orange, and Armidale.

In addition to maintenance work and new teaching equipment, the investment also provides more than $36 million for over 8,500 new digital devices and directs funding into improved digital connectivity at 28 regional campuses across the state.

This investment reflects the NSW Government’s commitment to place TAFE NSW at the heart of the vocational and education training system.

Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visits

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who has lived for almost a century? Would you like to hear about the rich history of the Hunter Valley from someone who has lived it?

Wesley Aged Care Volunteer Visitors is a service that connects volunteers with older Australians who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.

It can take as little as one hour a fortnight to drop in and say hello. Maybe you will have a cuppa and a chat, but it can make all the difference to someone who doesn’t have that in their life.

Our volunteers often say they get as much out of volunteering as they put in and they love sharing stories with the older person they visit.

What would it take for you to build a new friendship?

We will find someone in your area, with similar interests and introduce you. You will have ongoing support from our team and we host annual celebration events to say thank you for all the good that you are doing.

Let us connect you with an older person in your community who is feeling lonely.
